Bowie State Welcomes Fayetteville State For Military Appreciation Day

BOWIE, MD—The Bowie State men's basketball team opens up the year of 2025 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) matchup against Fayetteville State on Saturday, Jan. 4, inside of A.C. Jordan Arena. This will be the nightcap game of a doubleheader featuring the women's game beginning at 2:00 p.m. 
  

 
The doubleheader will be streamed live on the Bulldog Sports Network.

Clear Bag Policy
Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bag into the stadium, all of which are subject to search.
• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
• Small clutch bags measuring 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap
• All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes but is not limited to purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the stadium.

The Series 
 
• The Broncos have won the last five meetings against the Bulldogs entering Saturday's matchup. 
• In their last meeting, Fayetteville State defeated Bowie State 77-53 in Baltimore, MD, to advance to the semifinal round of the CIAA Tournament.  

• The Bulldogs have a 6-2 record in A.C Jordan Arena, dropping their last contest, 61-49, on Jan. 4, 2023.  
   

 
Scouting Bowie State  

Bowie State (7-7, 0-3 CIAA) is currently looking for its first CIAA win on the season as they sit at .500 win percentage on the season. Throughout the first half of the season, the Bulldogs are known for playing the passing lanes and protecting the paint. The Bulldogs are ranked third in the CIAA in steals per game (9.7) and blocks per game (4.4). BSU also shares the ball well, being ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game (14.2). Bowie State's leading scoring and rebounder is Amare Wimbush, who averages 12.7 ppg and 6.6 rebounds. Elijah Davis leads BSU in assists (3.7) while leading the CIAA in steals per game (2.7). 
  

 
Last Time Out for the Bulldogs  

The Bulldogs dropped their last outing against Johnson C. Smith, 60-52, on Saturday, Dec. 21, inside Brayboy Gymnasium. BSU's leading scorer was Justin Morrisey, who scored 16 points off of the bench. Bowie State had two other double-digit scorers. Wimbush added 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Davis added 10 points, six assists, and two steals. The Bulldogs did most of their scoring inside of the paint, scoring 42 points down low.
 
Scouting Fayetteville State 

Fayetteville State (9-4, 2-1 CIAA) is looking to extend its two-game win streak against Bowie State on Saturday afternoon. FSU is a team that is founded on defense, being ranked fourth in the conference and holding teams to 69.4 ppg. They are also the fifth-best team when it comes to scoring margin, outscoring teams by a margin of 5.5 points. The Broncos are led by Caleb Simmons, who is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, being ranked third in the CIAA in points per game (19.2) and rebounds (9.3). Tairell Fletcher is second on the team in scoring but fifth in the CIAA, averaging 16.5 ppg.
  
Last Time Out for the Broncos 

The Broncos opened up the year of 2025 with a victory in a non-conference matchup against USC Beaufort, 85-63, inside of Felton J. Capel Arena. Simmons led the way, scoring 27 points while hauling in 12 rebounds. FSU had two other double-digit scorers, Ezekiel Cannedy with 13 points and Fletcher adding 11 points and seven assists. Fayetteville State never surrendered the lead in the game while scoring 19 points off of turnovers. The Broncos held the Sand Sharks to shooting 27.6 percent from the three-point land.

Bowie State will stay home to face off against Shaw University on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. for Education Day inside of A. C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, MD. Admission to the doubleheader will be free and fans are encouraged to wear pajamas for pajama day. The Bulldogs are 10-11 all-time against the Bears.
