BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State women's volleyball team (4-10, 1-1 CIAA) picked up a decisive 3-0 sweep over Washington Adventist (3-3) Wednesday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs won by set scores of 25-6, 25-21, and 25-14.
The Bulldogs set the tone early, jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the opening frame behind a service ace from
Marissa Robinson and a kill by
Melisa Anacius. A balanced attack kept Washington Adventist off rhythm as
Abena Asomani-Martin provided multiple kills and back-to-back aces to close the set, sealing a dominant 25-6 win.
Bowie State carried that momentum into the second set, racing out to an 8-1 advantage behind a service run from
Trinity Loundmon. WAU responded to cut the deficit to 14-13, but the Bulldogs answered with a Robinson kill and another ace from Loundmon to regain control. The Shock committed late errors that lifted BSU to a 25-21 decision and a 2-0 match lead.
In the third, the Bulldogs never looked back after an early kill from Anacius sparked a 7-3 start.
Iman Wright added two service aces and multiple kills to keep BSU in command, while
Madison James and Robinson contributed key points. Asomani-Martin closed the door with another kill, giving the Bulldogs a 25-14 victory to complete the sweep.
Bowie State head coach
Edric Poitier reflected on the victory, telling BSU Athletics reporter Eric Scott,
"Every win is a good win. It wasn't an easy game, but we'll take it. At the same time, there's no celebrating this one. We've got to lock back in because tomorrow we hit the road to compete in the CIAA Roundup in North Carolina."
