BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team (6-12, 3-3 CIAA, 1-2 North) will host the Big Blue of Bluefield State (8-12, 5-1 CIAA, 2-1 North) on Monday, Oct. 13, for Girls Night Out inside A.C. Jordan Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Bulldogs Last Timeout
The Bulldogs opened strong, taking the first set 25-19 behind efficient hitting and stout defense. Snowden and Nicole Taylor led the front line, while Mekenna Scott paced the offense with sharp passing to give BSU early momentum.
In a tightly contested second set that featured 10 ties, Bowie State's late rally fell just short as Virginia Union capitalized on key errors to even the match with a 26-24 win.
Bowie State responded in the third, fueled by timely kills from Iman Wright and Nadira Avery to secure a 25-22 victory. Taylor Johnson anchored the back row with steady defense, helping the Bulldogs reclaim a 2-1 lead.
The Panthers battled back in the fourth, pulling away late for a 25-20 win to force a decisive fifth set. In the final frame, VUU closed on a 6-2 run to clinch the match, 15-11.
Scouting Bowie State
Bowie State has developed an effective offensive rhythm led by outside hitter Snowden, who leads the team with 136 kills (3.09 per set). Middle blocker Edwards has been a force at the net, hitting .337 with 61 total blocks, while Taylor adds 121 kills and 37 blocks as another key presence up front.
Setter Scott steers the attack with 232 assists, and libero Johnson anchors the defense with a team-high 204 digs and 22 service aces. As a unit, the Bulldogs average 9.9 kills and 12.2 digs per set, while ranking among the CIAA leaders with 1.85 blocks per set.
Scouting Bluefield State
- Record: 8–12 overall, 5–1 CIAA, 2-1 North
- Offense: Balanced hitting .138 as a team. Led by Soniya Garner (2.3 kills/set, 171 total kills) and Allyson Martin (2.0 kills/set, 137 kills). Callesta Styles (.172) and Dynasty Andrews (.101) contribute in the middle.
- Defense: Steady back row anchored by Maya Morales (4.2 digs/set, 283 total) and Gabby Hale (2.4 digs/set). One of the better blocking units in the CIAA, averaging 2.2 blocks/set with Styles (67.0) and Andrews (46.0) leading the net defense.
- Serving/Passing: Aggressive (122 aces, 1.7/set; 121 errors). Morales (24) and Hale (24) are top servers. Serve receive remains a weak spot with 167 errors (2.3/set) that often put them out of system.Â

The Bulldogs will stay home on Friday, Oct. 17, for a divisional matchup against Elizabeth City State inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
