Last Time Out
Bowie State posted a 2-1 mark at the CIAA Round-Up last weekend in Bowie, Md. The Bulldogs opened Saturday with a dominant sweep over Claflin (25-17, 25-18, 26-24), hitting .252 as a team while holding the Lady Panthers to a .121 mark. Nina Edwards and Nicole Taylor powered an early surge, and Mekenna Scott's serving helped BSU jump out to a 6-0 lead in the first set. Abena Asomani-Martin sealed the win with a set-clinching kill as Bowie State rallied from a 13-7 deficit in the third frame to complete the sweep.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs fell to Winston-Salem State in straight sets before bouncing back with a 3-0 victory over Johnson C. Smith. Edwards stayed hot with 13 kills on .545 hitting against WSSU and added six kills and three blocks versus JCSU. Taylor Johnson anchored the defense with 14 digs, while Scott and Trinity Loundmon combined for over 20 assists and four service aces. Melisa Anacius added three solo blocks as the Bulldogs closed the weekend on a high note, improving to 6-5 in CIAA play heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Scouting Bowie State
Under head coach Edric Poitier, the Bulldogs have emerged as one of the CIAA's most improved programs. BSU ranks top five in hitting percentage (.150) and third in total blocks (148) this season.
Offensively, Edwards (.367 hitting, 2.28 kills/set) and Snowden (2.66 kills/set) lead the charge, while Taylor provides depth on the outside. Scott (4.21 assists/set) and Loundmon (3.67 assists/set) orchestrate a balanced attack that continues to gain momentum.
Defensively, Bowie State averages 1.8 blocks per set, anchored by Edwards, Taylor, and Asomani-Martin. Johnson leads the back row with 264 digs (3.47 per set), helping the Bulldogs maintain their defensive edge.
Scouting Goldey-Beacom
Led by head coach Alexa Poss, the Lightning have proven to be one of the CACC's most complete teams, ranking second in hitting percentage (.185) and top three in assists, blocks, and digs.
Middle hitter Gabi Fullwood ranks third in the CACC in hitting percentage (.320) and second in blocks (68), anchoring a front line that includes Kelci Gingras (2.22 kills/set) and Giuliana Jaku (2.11 kills/set, 30 aces). Setter Sofia Rodriguez directs an offense averaging 11.2 kills per set, while libero Gaby Fernandez ranks among the league's best with 437 digs (5.27 per set).
Goldey-Beacom's balanced play and depth across all positions make them a formidable non-conference test for Bowie State.
