BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team (6-11, 3-2 CIAA, 1-1 North) will travel to Richmond, Va., Thursday, Oct. 9, to compete in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division match against Virginia Union (7-8, 2-3 CIAA, 1-1 North ). First serve is set for 6 pm inside Barco-Stevens Hall.

Bulldogs at CIAA Round-Up One
The Bulldogs wrapped up their weekend at the CIAA Round-Up with a 2-1 record, highlighted by a historic win over Shaw and a sweep of Livingstone inside Felton J. Capel Arena.
The Bulldogs opened the event with a 3-1 victory against Shaw, their first over the Lady Bears since 2015. Edwards and Snowden led the charge as BSU took the opening set 25-12, before closing the match in four behind clutch kills from Edwards and Snowden to secure their second CIAA win of the season.
Bowie State later fell to host Fayetteville State in straight sets, despite a strong effort from Snowden (10 kills, 8 digs) and Mekenna Scott (13 assists, 4 digs).
The Bulldogs bounced back on Saturday with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Livingstone (25-22, 25-23, 25-11). Edwards powered the offense with 12 kills on 17 swings (.647), while Snowden added nine kills and Scott dished out 18 assists. BSU controlled the match from start to finish, closing out the final set on a kill from Corey Bradley to complete the sweep.
Scouting Bowie State
The Bulldogs head into their divisional matchup against VUU with momentum after winning three of their last four matches. BSU has found balance offensively behind outside hitter Snowden, who leads the team with 120 kills and averages 3.08 per set. Middle blocker Edwards has been dominant at the net with a .339 hitting percentage and 59 total blocks, while Nicole Taylor adds 112 kills and 34 blocks as a key front-line contributor.
Setter Mekenna Scott guides the offense with 205 assists, while libero Taylor Johnson anchors the defense with a team-high 176 digs and 22 service aces. Bowie State averages 9.8 kills and 11.9 digs per set, while ranking among the conference leaders in blocking at 1.9 per set.
Scouting Virginia Union
- Record: 7–8 overall, 2–3 CIAA, 1-1 North.
- Offense: Balanced attack with Madison Hill (2.6 kills/set, .272) and Aireanna Johnson (2.3 kills/set, 94 total kills). Team hits .129 overall, below opponents' .159.
- Defense: Solid digging team (14.8 digs/set) paced by Leilah Beasley (2.9 digs/set), with strong support from Franklin, Johnson, and Peña. Blocking led by Hill (24.0) and Perot (20.0).
- Serving/Passing: Service game inconsistent (99 aces, 2.0/set vs. 138 for opponents). Struggles in serve receive with 138 errors (2.8/set).
Up Next
The Bulldogs return home on Monday, Oct. 13, to face Northern Division rival Bluefield State inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The matchup will feature a special "Girls Night Out" theme; fans are encouraged to wear pink and show their support for the Bulldogs. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
