BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State University women's volleyball team earned a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Virginia State inside A.C. Jordan Arena on Monday evening. The Bulldogs captured the match with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, anchored by a total of 12 team blocks.
Bowie State jumped out to a strong start in the first set, quickly building a 5-0 lead behind
Lyric Snowden's kill and service ace. The Trojans rallied to tie the score at 5-5 with Kyra Marciniak contributing key kills, but the Bulldogs responded with clutch plays from Snowden and
Abena Asomani-Martin to regain control.
Nina Edwards and
Nicole Taylor helped maintain the edge, and Snowden's final kill sealed the 25-21 win.
The Bulldogs continued their momentum in the second set, with multiple contributors fueling the attack.
Mekenna Scott facilitated several key points, highlighted by a kill from Taylor early in the set. BSU capitalized on VSU errors, with critical kills from Asomani-Martin and Edwards, and closed the set 25-21 following
Nadira Avery's decisive kill.
In the third set, Bowie State started strong with Edwards and Taylor scoring early, but VSU mounted a comeback, tying the game at 21-21. Despite a late kill from Avery, the Trojans claimed the set 25-22.
BSU regained control in the fourth set, opening with a 3-0 lead on a block from Taylor and kills from Snowden and Taylor. After VSU evened the score at 6-6, Bowie State responded with kills from Edwards and Taylor and a service ace from Snowden. The Bulldogs maintained their advantage, taking the set 25-22 and securing the match victory.
