Women’s Volleyball Opens CIAA Tournament Against Top-Seeded Rams

BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's volleyball team enters the 2025 CIAA Volleyball Championship as the No. 4 seed from the North Division and will face South Division No. 1 seed Winston-Salem State on Friday, Nov. 21. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at A.C. Jordan Arena, marking the Bulldogs' third straight tournament appearance.

During the regular-season matchup, BSU earned a 3-1 victory over Virginia State inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs posted set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, highlighted by 12 team blocks.

Bowie State controlled the opening two sets with strong play from Snowden, Nicole Taylor, and Edwards. After dropping a close third set, the Bulldogs bounced back in the fourth, using early momentum and key kills from Snowden and Taylor to close out the match and finish the regular season with a win.

Scouting the Rams
Winston-Salem State enters the matchup as one of the CIAA's most statistically dominant teams, ranking No. 2 in the conference in points while leading the league in hitting percentage, assists, and digs. The Rams are also second in kills.

WSSU's attack is anchored by Zoe Chesson, who owns the CIAA's top hitting percentage at .411, making her one of the league's most reliable and high-efficiency attackers. Holiday Ellis fuels the scoring production, leading the CIAA in both kills per set (3.33) and points per set (3.78), providing WSSU with a powerful and consistent offensive threat.

Defensively, the Rams excel behind Kalyn Cuthbertson, who ranks third in the CIAA in digs, helping WSSU secure the league's top mark in total digs.
