Scouting Bowie State

  • Bowie State is led by a dynamic guard trio: Justin Morrisey (16.2 points per game), Jaiden McGhee (16.0), and Guy Flauntleroy (12.8).
  • The Bulldogs create pressure defensively, averaging more than 7 steals and 3 blocks per game.
  • Four players are scoring in double figures, including Charles Thomas III, who adds 13.0 points per game, fueling a balanced offensive attack.

Last Time Out for the Bulldogs
Bowie State went toe-to-toe with Saint Michael's but came up just short in a 65-63 loss Saturday at Draddy Gymnasium during the HBCU Harlem Renaissance Classic. The Bulldogs controlled stretches of the game and used a balanced attack to score 26 points in the paint, taking a 35-33 lead into halftime behind key buckets from Morrissey and a go-ahead three from Charles Thomas, III.

The back-and-forth second half featured 10 lead changes as BSU continued to apply pressure. McGhee provided timely scoring, including a layup with 7:49 remaining to put the Bulldogs ahead, while Thomas added another triple and late free throws to keep Bowie State within striking distance.

Tied in the closing seconds, Saint Michael's converted a contested layup and ensuing free throw to regain the lead. Bowie State secured the rebound and called timeout to set up a final play, but the potential game-tying shot missed its mark, allowing the Purple Knights to escape with the win.

Scouting Cheyney

  • Cheyney enters Wednesday's game with a 3-3 record, including wins over Central Penn and Penn State Brandywine (OT).
  • The Wolves are averaging 78.3 points per game while allowing 83.7, holding a –5.3 scoring margin.
  • Defensively, CU's biggest strength is creating turnovers, averaging 11.0 steals per game and forcing opponents into 19.3 turnovers.
  • Offensively, the Wolves get to the free-throw line consistently, averaging 19.3 made free throws per game while shooting 44.2% from the field.
  • CU is shooting 31.5% from three this season, averaging 5.7 made threes per game.
  • S.J. Hutchinson II leads the team with 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, while Joshua Blackmon adds 12.5 points per game and strong perimeter scoring.
