Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bulldogs Improve to 3–1 with Commanding Win over Raiders

BOWIE, MD —The Bowie State women's basketball (3-1) delivered a dominant performance on Monday night, rolling past Shippensburg University with an 83-54 victory inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs' defensive pressure set the tone early, forcing 16 steals that translated into 29 fast-break points.

BSU wasted no time establishing control in the opening quarter. Malaka Cobb sparked the offense with a pair of transition layups at 8:10 and 5:40, while Kristin Sterling added key buckets both in the paint and at the free-throw line. Shippensburg's seven first-quarter turnovers fueled the Bulldogs' momentum, and a late layup from Hannah Wilkerson pushed Bowie State to a 22-11 lead after one.

The Bulldogs tightened their grip in the second quarter with stifling defense and efficient scoring. Sterling opened with back-to-back baskets, and Sydney Anthony added an assist and a free throw to keep the offense rolling. Defensively, Chaniya Taylor protected the rim with two blocks, and Mia Smith knocked down a timely three-pointer at the 2:21 mark. Cobb capped the frame with a late layup as BSU outscored the Raiders 22-7 to take a commanding 44-18 advantage into halftime.

Bowie State stayed in control throughout the third. Sterling's jumper at 7:41 and steady free-throw shooting from Afia Owusu-Mensah padded the lead, while Wilkerson drilled back-to-back three-pointers to put the game firmly out of reach. SU's Melana Eyer hit a three late in the quarter, but the Bulldogs held a 67-33 lead heading into the fourth.

Shippensburg found a bit of rhythm in the final period, but BSU's early dominance left no room for a comeback. Anthony opened the quarter by converting a layup off her own steal, and Jai'Den Anderson provided a strong boost down the stretch with multiple scores and seven total rebounds, including an offensive tip-in at 2:52. Despite a hot shooting stretch from Eyer, the Bulldogs closed out a wire-to-wire victory, improving to 3-1 on the season.
