WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Bowie State men's basketball team (2-5) earned a 70–63 overtime win at the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon, powered by a relentless defensive effort that produced 14 steals.
Guy Fauntleroy set the tone early for the Bulldogs, knocking down a three-pointer on the opening possession. UDC answered quickly, and the teams traded baskets throughout a competitive first half. Jamel Melvin provided two interior scores for BSU, while the Firebirds fast breaks kept the game tight. Jaiden McGhee gave the Bulldogs a brief lead with a layup in the final minute, but UDC's Arthur Roache converted at the buzzer to send Bowie State into halftime trailing 27–26.
The second half remained a back-and-forth battle, featuring multiple lead changes. Fauntleroy buried another three to tie the game at 29 early in the period, and Charles Thomas, III threw down a transition dunk to knot the score at 55 with just over three minutes left. KJ West later tied the game at 59 on a jumper with 37 seconds remaining. Amir Shaheed's three-point attempt at the horn missed, sending the game into overtime.
Bowie State controlled the extra period from the start. Nazaire Hinton scored BSU's first OT basket, and West followed with a layup at 2:02 to give the Bulldogs a 63–61 edge.
