2025 Season Overview
Bowie State enters its season finale with a 2-7 overall record and a 1-6 mark in CIAA play. The Bulldogs opened the season with a strong 23-7 win over Shippensburg before battling through a series of close contests, including one-point losses to Livingstone and Elizabeth City State. Offensively, Bowie State averages 311.9 yards per game, powered by a balanced attack featuring 145.3 rushing yards and 166.6 passing yards per outing.
Running backs Micah Robinson (582 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Maximus Jones (567 yards, 7 touchdowns) rank fifth and sixth in the CIAA, respectively, while quarterbacks Kevin Taylor and Malakai Anthony have combined for 1,499 passing yards and seven touchdowns. Joseph Towler leads the receiving corps with 310 yards and a score, followed closely by Challenger Valentine and Ty Lyles, who have combined for more than 500 receiving yards.
Defensively, BSU leads the CIAA in red-zone defense and continues to be one of the conference's most disruptive units, totaling 15 sacks and 15 turnovers. Jamal Jones ranks second in the CIAA and 12th nationally in tackles for loss, as well as fourth in the CIAA and 31st nationally in sacks. Moses Sarweh and Samuel Graham rank third and ninth, respectively, in tackles, while Elijah McKenzie leads the CIAA and ranks second nationally in passes defended.
On special teams, the Bulldogs boast the third-best kickoff return unit in the CIAA, highlighted by Lyles, who ranks second in the CIAA and 21st nationally in kick return average. Kicker Chris Coleman ranks second in the CIAA in field goals made, providing consistency in the kicking game.
Bowie State has also been well represented in CIAA weekly honors this season. Graham earned Defensive Back of the Week three times while Valentine was named Wide Receiver of the Week, Robinson claimed Running Back of the Week, and freshman quarterback Savion Witherspoon was recognized as Rookie of the Week following his standout debut performance.
Witherspoon Collects First CIAA Weekly Honor
Witherspoon, a true freshman, turned in an exceptional performance during the Bulldogs' Homecoming matchup against Elizabeth City State on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Baltimore, Md. native showcased his dual-threat talent by rushing for three touchdowns and totaling 220 yards of offense in the narrow 28-27 setback.
He concluded the contest completing 16-of-27 passes for 139 yards while adding 81 rushing yards on 12 carries, including touchdown runs of five, seven, and two yards. Witherspoon directed a balanced BSU offense that recorded 317 total yards and 27 first downs.
Witherspoon's breakout effort marks his first CIAA weekly honor of the season.
The Series
Saturday's matchup marks the 14th meeting between Bowie State and Lincoln (PA) since 2009, with the Bulldogs holding a 13-0 advantage in the series. Bowie State has dominated the matchup, outscoring the Lions 647-199 over that span. The Bulldogs' most lopsided victory came in 2017, when they defeated Lincoln (PA) 86-14 on Oct. 28 in Bowie, Md.
Bulldogs Last Time Out
BSU came up just short in a 28-27 Homecoming loss to ECSU on Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Witherspoon led the offense with three rushing touchdowns, while linebacker McKoy, III added a 97-yard interception return for a score as the Bulldogs built a 27-7 lead midway through the third quarter.
However, the Vikings rallied with three unanswered touchdowns, including a 33-yard strike late in the fourth quarter to take the lead. Bowie State's final drive reached midfield, but the Bulldogs were stopped on fourth down, sealing the narrow defeat.
Scouting Lincoln (PA)
Lincoln (PA) enters the matchup looking to snap a winless stretch in 2025 while showing flashes of promise on both sides of the ball. LUPA average 289.3 yards of total offense and 15.7 points per game, leaning on a pass-first attack led by quarterback Hamas Duren. The junior signal-caller ranks among the CIAA's more active passers, completing 58 percent of his throws for 1,309 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding mobility as a scrambler. In the backfield, Zaheer Seabrooks leads the ground game with 247 rushing yards and an 82-yard long score, while Rondarius Gregory provides versatility as both a rusher and receiver, totaling 394 all-purpose yards and three rushing touchdowns. Duren's favorite targets include Kyrie Tyson (545 yards, 4 TDs), Wayne Allen (351 yards, 1 TD), and Kasi Hazzard (208 yards, 2 TDs), giving Lincoln multiple options in the passing game.
Defensively, the Lions are anchored by Charles Thompson, who leads the team with 60 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions, while Lester McCoy has been disruptive up front with 5.0 sacks and 11.5 TFLs. The unit has shown flashes of physicality but has struggled to contain explosive plays, allowing 442.4 yards and 45.7 points per game. Still, players like Zion Knox and Travis Williams bring playmaking ability to the secondary and defensive line.
On special teams, Joshua George provides a spark in the return game, averaging 21.7 yards per kickoff return, while Kasi Hazzard averages 17.8 yards per punt return. Kicker Daylen Ortiz handles field goals (long of 30 yards), and punter Moses T-Toe averages 30.1 yards per boot. Lincoln's special teams have been a bright spot, helping the Lions create field position opportunities throughout the season.
