Men’s Basketball Set for Wednesday Night Matchup Against Shippensburg

BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men's basketball team (2-5) returns to A.C. Jordan Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 3, to host Shippensburg University (4-2). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Clear Bag Policy

Fans may only bring the following into the arena (all items are subject to search):

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags not exceeding 12" x 6" x 12"
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (such as Ziploc)
  • Small clutch bags measuring 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a strap

All other bags are prohibited, including purses, backpacks, non-clear drawstring bags, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases and diaper bags. Fans are encouraged to return unapproved items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot store items that are not permitted in the arena.

The Series

  • This is the seventh meeting between the two programs since 2018.
  • The series between Bowie State and Shippensburg is tied at 3-3.
  • The Bulldogs have won the last two matchups by one point each: 75-74 in 2024 and 70-69 in 2023.
  • Shippensburg won three straight from 2019 through 2022.

 Scouting Bowie State

  • Bowie State features a balanced scoring attack, led by Justin Morrisey (16.2 points per game – ninth in the CIAA), Jaiden McGhee (15.8), and Guy Fauntleroy (13.3 – fifth in the CIAA in three-pointers made).
  • The Bulldogs protect the rim at a high levelranking third in the CIAA in blocked shots, powered by Jamel Melvin, who sits fifth in the conference individually (12 total blocks).
  • McGhee gives BSU efficiency at the line, ranking seventh in the CIAA in free throw percentage at 82.8 percent.
  • BSU's defense lives on pressure, averaging more than 8 steals and 4 blocks per game.
  • Four Bulldogs average double figures, including Charles Thomas, III (11.2 ppg), giving Bowie State multiple scoring threats across the floor.

Last Time Out
BSU is coming off a 70–63 overtime victory at the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a relentless defensive performance that produced 14 steals.

Fauntleroy set the tone immediately, knocking down a three on the opening possession. UDC responded, and the teams' traded baskets throughout a tightly contested first half. Melvin added a pair of inside scores, while the Firebirds' transition play kept the margin narrow. McGhee briefly put the Bulldogs in front with a late layup, but a buzzer-beater from UDC's Arthur Roache sent BSU into the break down 27–26.

The second half featured more back-and-forth action and several lead changes. Fauntleroy opened the period with another three to tie the game at 29, and Thomas, III later electrified the Bulldogs with a transition dunk to even the score at 55 with just over three minutes remaining. KJ West tied it again at 59-59 with 37 seconds left, sending the contest to overtime.

Bowie State controlled the extra period. Nazaire Hinton opened the scoring in OT, and West's layup at the 2:02 mark put BSU ahead 63–61. From there, Fauntleroy closed the door, burying a clutch three and knocking down two free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal the 70–63 win.

Scouting Shippensburg

  • Shippensburg enters the matchup with a 4–2 record, including home wins over Chestnut Hill and Cheyney.
  • The Raiders average 85.3 points per game while allowing 82.5holding a +2.8 scoring margin.
  • Offensively, the Raiders shoot 47.5% from the field33.3% from threeand 71.2% at the free-throw lineaveraging 15.7 made free throws per game.
  • SU is pulling down 37.7 rebounds per gameled by Michael Dickson who averages 6.2 per outing.
  • Markus Frank leads the team at 23.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per gamewhile Dickson adds 16.5 pointsand Jaydon Smith contributes 14.8 points per gameforming an efficient scoring trio.
