Women’s Basketball Control the Glass in Win Over Lynn

BOCA RATON, FL — The Bowie State women's basketball team (8-2) controlled the paint and the glass en route to a 73-63 victory over Lynn University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs held a decisive 44-32 rebounding advantage and scored 14 second-chance points to secure the win.

Bowie State set the tone early, opening the game with an offensive putback from Kristin Sterling before Mia Smith knocked down a 3-pointer at the 9:08 mark to give the Bulldogs an early edge. Sterling continued to dominate inside with multiple offensive rebounds and finishes in the paint, while Afia Owusu-Mensah buried a 3-pointer late in the quarter to extend the lead. BSU closed the opening period ahead 21-13, capitalizing on strong rebounding and perimeter shooting.

Sydney Anthony opened the second period with a layup, and Smith added two more baskets while also setting up Sterling for a jumper midway through the quarter. Hannah Wilkerson provided a spark with a layup and a free throw to complete a three-point play, as Bowie State limited Lynn to just seven points in the frame. Wilkerson capped the half with two free throws, sending the Bulldogs into halftime with a commanding 38-20 lead.

LU mounted a push in the third quarter, connecting on several 3-pointers to cut into the deficit. BSU weathered the surge with steady play, highlighted by Sterling's perfect 4-for-4 effort at the free-throw line and a defensive steal by Owusu-Mensah that led to a fast-break basket. The Bulldogs continued to force turnovers and convert in transition, maintaining a 56-44 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Gabrielle Clary opened the fourth quarter with two free throws, and after the Fighting Knights pulled closer, Chaniya Taylor responded with a layup off a Sterling assist. Taylor's work on the offensive glass late, including a tip-in in the closing seconds, helped seal the victory. Anthony closed out the scoring from the free-throw line as the Bulldogs secured the 73-63 win.
