BLUEFIELD, WV --Amare Wimbush scored 30 points and Warren Mouganda added 25, but the Bowie State men's basketball team fell to the Bluefield State 101-90 on the road Saturday afternoon inside of Ned Shott Gymnasium.
Wimbush and Mouganda's stellar scoring performances led the Bulldogs (15-11, 7-7 CIAA, 5-3 North) in the contest. Wimbush tacked on eight rebounds and two steals, and Mouganda added seven rebounds and three assists. Joseph Allen also provided a boost off the bench with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
BSU found success inside the restricted area, scoring 48 points inside of the paint.
Bowie State did a great job disrupting Bluefield State's momentum, forcing 18 turnovers compared to BSU's 11 turnovers. Wimbush's two steals led the way individually for the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
After a tightly contested first 10 minutes, Bowie State struggled to close the gap, falling behind 52-42 heading into halftime.
BSU came out of halftime clicking on all cylinders, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Justin Morrisey's layup, to shrink the deficit to 52-47 with 18:54 to go in the contest. Big Blue responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 101-90. Bowie State took care of business in the paint in this half, recording 26 of its 48 points in the lane.
