BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 21-point performance from the bench, but fell short 77-70 to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe the Virginia State Trojans (11-7, 12-3 CIAA, 6-3 North) at home inside the A.C. Jordan Arena Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs (15-12, 7-8 CIAA, 5-4 North) had three players score in double figures, led by Warren Mouganda, who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Amare Wimbush tacked on 13 points and Elijah Davis chipped in as well with 12 points and four assists.
How It Happened
Bowie State started off strong, putting together a 39-37 lead heading into halftime. BSU capitalized on six VSU turnovers in the period, turning them into 10 points on the other end of the floor.
The Bulldogs kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Davis' three, to grow the lead to 54-48 with 13:17 to go in the contest. Virginia State then asserted control, outscoring the Bulldogs 29-16 the rest of the way to hand Bowie State the 77-70 loss. BSU took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 31 points in the lane.
