Mouganda's Game Winner Leads The Bulldogs over Winston-Salem State

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Warren Mouganda knocked down a 3-pointer with only seven seconds remaining on the clock to put the Bowie State men's basketball team up for good in a 71-70 victory over the Winston-Salem State Rams on the road Monday at C.E. Gaines Center.

Mouganda led the Bulldogs (13-10, 5-6 CIAA, 3-2 North) with 21 points and two steals. Justin Morrisey added nine points and two steals and Victory Naboya chipped in as well with nine points.

The Bowie State defense forced 19 Winston-Salem State turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Caleb Johnson led the way individually for the Bulldogs with three steals.

How It Happened
After falling behind 30-20, BSU went on a 7-0 run with 4:04 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 30-27. Winston-Salem answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bulldogs down 38-33 entering halftime.

Winston-Salem State (2-16, 0-7 CIAA, 0-4 South) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 49-43 advantage before Bowie State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Morrisey's three, to seize a 51-49 lead with 13:18 to go in the contest. The Rams narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 71-70 win. BSU got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 38 total points.

Bowie State will remain on the road when the Bulldogs travel to Elizabeth City, NC to take on CIAA opponent Elizabeth City State on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4:00 p.m. inside R.L. Vaughan Center.  The Bulldogs have an all-time record of 25-9 against the Vikings, winning their last meeting against ECSU 89-85 earlier this season on Jan. 25, 2025.
