Young Named CIAA Rookie of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Bowie State's Mykhl Young has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

The Glen Allen, Va., native has been a standout performer for the Bulldogs, making a significant impact both defensively and offensively. The catcher and utility player has posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, recording 25 putouts and three assists without an error this season. Her defensive consistency has been instrumental in keeping opposing offenses in check.

At the plate, Young contributes a .467 on-base percentage through 11 games. In the last two games, she has drawn multiple walks and added two stolen bases, demonstrating her ability to create scoring opportunities.

Bowie State (3-8) is set to host Shippensburg University (4-10) for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 11. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at BSU Softball Field.
