ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.– The Bowie State women's tennis team (1-3, 0-3 CIAA) displayed strong doubles play, winning both matches, but fell short in singles competition, resulting in a tough 4-1 loss to Elizabeth City State on Tuesday, Mar. 25, at the ECSU Tennis Courts.
The dynamic duo of Torrienne Emery and Kayla Lowery delivered an impressive 6-4 victory. Meanwhile, the pair of Nakari Blunt and Verneice Herndon matched their success, also winning 6-4 to give the Bulldogs a strong start.
However, singles play proved to be the deciding factor. Blunt secured the lone singles victory at the No. 3 spot with a hard-fought 5-4 win. At No. 1, Emery battled but couldn't find her rhythm, falling 8-2, while Lowery put up a strong fight at No. 2 before falling 6-3. Herndon faced a tough challenge at No. 4, ending with an 8-0 loss.
The Lady Vikings ultimately claimed the overall match victory due to default wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
