Coreena Dunham went 1-for-2 with a walk, while the Bulldogs struggled offensively, stranding a key runner on third in the second inning. Despite battling to the final out, the Bulldogs ultimately couldn't break through.

About Bowie State
In conference play, the Bulldogs are riding a nine-game winning streak, making them the top-ranked team in the CIAA. BSU has been a force at the plate, boasting a team batting average of .265. Over 32 games, the Bulldogs have racked up 217 hits, 143 RBIs, and 21 home runs. Jayla Hill leads the team in home runs with six, followed closely by teammates Dunham and Dawkins, who have five each.

Bowie State also thrives on the base paths, stealing 62 bases with a 75% success rate. Dunham leads the team in steals, swiping 19 bags on 23 attempts.

On the mound, the pitching duo of Ryalee Dillard (8-1, 3.05 ERA) and George (5-8, 3.83 ERA) anchors the staff. Together, the pitching duo tallied 107 strikeouts, making it difficult for opponents to find their rhythm at the plate.

Golden Bulls Last Outing
Johnson C. Smith University softball team dropped a 17-1 decision to Winston-Salem State on Saturday, April 5, at Twin City Ballpark.

The Golden Bulls took an early lead as Jayona Griffin walked, stole two bases, and scored on a Kaia Johnson groundout. However, WSSU responded with 17 unanswered runs, fueled by 16 hits and two JCSU errors. JCSU was held hitless, with Griffin's baserunning providing the lone highlight. Jasmine Hogan pitched the complete game, but the Rams' offense proved too much to handle.

Scouting Johnson C. Smith
Jayona Griffin leads the charge for the Golden Bulls at the plate, batting .370 with 10 hits and four stolen bases over eight games. Hogan adds a batting clip of.360 with nine hits, two RBIs, and five steals, while Aniylah Lane adds consistency with a .333 average and a .481 on-base percentage. Power production comes from Alissa Alvarado, who is hitting .318 and leads the team with nine RBIs.

JCSU has relied on its speed to create scoring opportunities, tallying 11 stolen bases this season, with Hogan and Griffin leading the way. On defense, Johnson and Suraya Hodges have been dependable with perfect fielding percentages, but overall inconsistency has resulted in 21 team errors and a .905 fielding percentage.

In the circle, Alvarado (0-1, 6.81 ERA) has been the most effective option, while Lane (0-3, 10.50 ERA) and Hogan (1-3, 12.53 ERA) have taken on most of the workload. As a group, the pitching staff has struggled, combining for a 10.43 ERA and allowing opponents to hit .432.
