The Series
Saturday's game will be the third meeting between the two teams. BSU and DSU have currently split their first two matchups 1-1. The Bulldogs won the previous matchup 22-11 on Sept. 2, 2023.

CIAA Weekly Honors
Two Bowie State standouts have been recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference for their performances this past week. Samuel Graham was tabbed CIAA Defensive Back of the Week, while Challenger Valentine earned CIAA Wide Receiver of the Week, the conference announced Monday evening.

Graham, a Baltimore, Md., native, anchored the Bulldogs' defense with a game-high nine tackles (five solo, four assisted). The redshirt senior forced two fumbles, recovering one and returning it 53 yards for a touchdown, while also registering a sack for a seven-yard loss.

Valentine, a sophomore wideout and Baltimore native, powered the offense with a team-high six catches for 81 yards. His 29-yard touchdown grab gave the Bulldogs an early edge, and he averaged 13.5 yards per reception in Bowie State's 23-7 win.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Through one week, the Bulldogs have shown a balanced attack and opportunistic defense in their 23-7 win at Shippensburg. The Bulldogs rushed for 145 yards behind Micah Robinson (83 yds) and Maximus Jones (63 yds, 1 TD). At the same time, quarterback Malakai Anthony was efficient, completing 12-of-19 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown to Valentine, who finished with six catches for 81 yards.

Despite allowing three sacks, Bowie State controlled the tempo with over 33 minutes of possession and a 40 percent third-down conversion rate.

Defensively, BSU limited the Raiders to just 50 yards on the ground and created three takeaways, highlighted by Samuel Graham's nine tackles, two forced fumbles, and a 53-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Elijah McKenzie added an interception, while the defensive front contributed four tackles for loss and a sack.

Special teams saw Chris Coleman connect on a 35-yard field goal, though consistency remains a point of emphasis. Overall, the Bulldogs leaned on physical running, timely passing, and a turnover-driven defense to open the year with momentum.

Scouting Delaware State
Delaware State sits at 1-1 under first-year head coach Desean Jackson, rebounding from a season-opening loss at Delaware with a 37-32 win over UAlbany.

The Hornets are powered by a strong rushing attack, averaging 284.5 yards per game behind Marquis Gillis (277 yds) and dual-threat quarterback Kaiden Bennett (447 total yds, 5 TDs). Jayden Jenkins and Nathan Stewart add depth to the skill positions, giving DSU balance offensively.

Defensively, the Hornets have struggled against the pass, allowing 288 yards and seven touchdowns through two games, though Quincy Robinson and Samuel Scaife have provided pressure up front.

The Hornets have also been flagged heavily, averaging over 100 penalty yards per game, but kicker Patrick Fisher-Butler has been reliable with two field goals, including a 45-yarder.

Up Next
Bowie State will remain on the road as they travel to "The Tar-Heel State" for their first CIAA conference matchup against  Livingstone College on Sept. 20,  at 4 p.m. from Alumni Memorial Stadium in Salisbury, NC.
