The Series
Tuesday's matchup marks just the seventh meeting between the two programs since 2009. West Chester holds a 6-0 advantage in the series, but the Bulldogs will look to snap that streak in tomorrow's contest.
Bulldogs at Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament
The Bulldogs showed resilience at the Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament, capped by a five-set victory over Caldwell to close out the weekend. The Bulldogs opened with a four-set loss to host Kutztown, highlighted by a second-set win behind strong play from Nina Edwards, Nicole Taylor and Madyson Brinson. Against California (Pa.), Lyric Snowden tallied nine kills while Taylor Johnson added 14 digs, but BSU dropped a competitive straight-set decision.
Bowie State earned its first win of the season against Caldwell, rallying for a 3-2 victory. Snowden paced the Bulldogs with 16 kills, Johnson served a career-high eight aces and Abena Asomani-Martin added five block assists. Edwards and Bracey Gross sealed the match with a block in the decisive fifth set, lifting BSU to a 15-12 clincher.
West Chester University
West Chester enters Tuesday's matchup off to a strong start, carrying a 6-1 record after sweeping a tri-match in Delaware over the weekend. The Golden Rams rebounded from a five-set setback at Molloy with back-to-back 3-0 wins over Goldey-Beacom and St. Thomas Aquinas. In the opener, Abiah Lane powered the offense with 14 kills, while setter Lacie Brown distributed 35 assists and anchored the attack. Against STAC, Zoe Haines led with 11 kills as WCU hit an impressive .375 overall, including .542 in the decisive third set.
The Golden Rams feature a balanced lineup that blends strong net play with efficient serving. Lane has been a consistent offensive leader, while Brown directs the attack and contributes defensively. Richardson and Isenberg add depth at the net, combining for timely blocks. Additionally, Freeman and Stepp would bolster the back row and service game.
