BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team will head to the Sunshine State this weekend to compete in the Eckerd Tournament, hosted by Eckerd College from Friday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 20. All matches will be played inside the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., with the Bulldogs opening tournament play against Nova Southeastern University at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

Scouting Bowie State
The Bulldogs (1-7) are coming off a tough nonconference start, highlighted by a five-set win over Caldwell and a narrow home loss to West Chester. Nicole Taylor leads BSU with 60 kills and 19 blocks, while Lyric Snowden averages a team-best 3.3 kills per set. Trinity Loundmon has tallied 108 assists, and Taylor Johnson paces the defense with 101 digs.
Bulldogs Last Match
The Bulldogs pushed West Chester to five sets Tuesday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena, but fell just short in a 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 26-28, 15-13 thriller.
Snowden led the Bulldogs with timely kills, while Nina Edwards and Abena Asomani-Martin powered the front line with blocks. Bowie State rallied from a 2-0 deficit, taking the third set 25-21 and edging the Golden Rams 28-26 in the fourth to force a decisive fifth. Despite back-to-back blocks from Edwards and Asomani-Martin and key points from Taylor, WCU escaped with the 15-13 win.
Nova Southeastern
Nova Southeastern is 4-2 under fourth-year head coach Kacie Ehinger, powered by a balanced attack and strong blocking. Outside hitter Taylor Stockman leads with 4.0 kills per set, while setter Abbie Roth averages 10.2 assists. Brantley Chipley and Olivia Aniol add efficiency at the net as the Sharks post 2.7 blocks per set, nearly double their opponents. Libero Brooke Spurgeon paces the defense with 82 digs.
Saint Leo
In her first season at the helm, head coach Abby Keim has Saint Leo working through early challenges after an 0-2 start. Outside hitter Molly Chappell leads the Lions' offense with 2.8 kills per set, supported by Brielle Kallberg and Jala Drayton at the net. Setter Tajma Muharemovic averages nearly six assists per set to guide the attack, while Mia Moser has been a spark from the service line. Defensively, Sabrina Valentin paces the back row, and Gina Stavile provides strength at the net.
Eckerd
Eckerd has opened the season 7-1 under longtime head coach Michelle Piantadosi-Lima, now in her 14th year. The Tritons feature a balanced attack with Kinga Michalska and Hayden Nash leading the front line, while setter Gabi Jedrzejczak directs the offense at nearly nine assists per set. Nyla Muskovin adds efficiency in the middle, hitting .346 with more than two kills per set. Defensively, the Tritons averages 17.3 digs per set and has been strong from the service line with 56 aces.
