RALEIGH, N.C. — The Bowie State men's basketball team (5-13, 3-4 CIAA) picked up a hard-fought 70–69 road victory over Shaw University on Monday night inside Spaulding Gym.
The Bulldogs erased a first-half stalemate with steady second-half execution and late-game poise, edging the Bears by one point over the final 20 minutes to secure the CIAA win.
Bowie State set the tone early as Joseph Allen knocked down a three-pointer just 20 seconds into the contest. Shaw answered quickly, and the opening half featured several lead changes. KJ West connected from beyond the arc late in the period to give the Bulldogs a brief edge, but the Bears responded with a late basket to knot the score at 34–34 heading into halftime.
The second half turned into a back-and-forth battle. Jaiden McGhee provided a spark with a three-pointer midway through the period, helping BSU build a narrow lead. Shaw continued to apply pressure, but the Bulldogs answered with timely scoring and defensive stops down the stretch.
Facing his former institution, West delivered the decisive moment, drilling a go-ahead three-pointer in the closing seconds before adding a free throw with 14 seconds remaining. Bowie State held on defensively in the final possession to seal the one-point victory.
