RICHMOND, VA — The Bowie State men's basketball team dropped an 83–44 CIAA road decision to Virginia Union University on Saturday afternoon at Barco-Stevens Hall.
The Bulldogs (5-16, 3-6 CIAA, 0-3 North) stayed competitive early but were unable to overcome second-half scoring runs by the Panthers, who outscored Bowie State 43–20 after the break to pull away.
Bowie State opened the contest with steady free-throw shooting, as Guy Fauntleroy connected on three free throws to tie the game at 3–3. Joseph Allen followed with a dunk off an assist from Jailin Landis to even the score at 5–5. The teams traded baskets through the opening minutes before VUU used turnovers and perimeter shooting to build separation, carrying a 40–24 lead into halftime.
Virginia Union extended its advantage early in the second half with back-to-back scoring bursts, including a three-pointer that pushed the margin into double figures. BSU answered behind Charles Thomas, III, who scored on a jumper and later converted a free throw to slow the run.
Despite defensive efforts from Jamel Melvin and transition pressure from Landis, the Bulldogs struggled to generate consistent offense. Virginia Union continued to score from beyond the arc and off the bench, widening the gap. Landis added a fast-break layup late, but the Panthers closed out the game to secure the 83–44 final.
