BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men's basketball (7-21, 5-11 CIAA, 2-8 North) secured an 86-83 victory over Lincoln (PA) on Saturday at A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs capitalized on free throws, converting 31 of 39 attempts, to edge out the win in a closely contested game.
The first half opened with the Lions establishing an early lead as Amadou Fall's layup and Ronald Bridges Jr.'s three-pointer gave it a 5-0 edge. BSU struggled with early turnovers, but
Joseph Allen's free throws got it on the board at 5-2. LUPA continued to extend its advantage, highlighted by a three-pointer from Julius Olanrewaju at the 16:21 mark, pushing the lead to 8-2.
KJ West kept the Bulldogs in the game with a three-pointer and a jumper, narrowing the gap to 12-10. The Lions maintained the lead, bolstered by Ronald Bridges Jr.'s scoring, including a dunk with 4:58 remaining. Despite a late surge from BSU, LUPA held a 39-36 advantage at the end of the first half, capped by Tyleek Fields' tip-in in the final second.
In the second half, Allen spearheaded a strong start for the Bulldogs with a layup and a free throw that cut the deficit to 41-39.
Jailin Landis tied the game at 41 with a layup assisted by West at 18:34. Allen continued his impactful play by scoring a dunk at 16:21, giving BSU a 47-41 edge. The Lions' Ronald Bridges Jr. responded with consecutive free throws, narrowing the gap to 47-43. As the half progressed, both teams battled closely, with LUPA tying the score at 64 with 6:27 remaining. West's two free throws with 22 seconds left brought BSU even at 72, setting up a tense finish. Ultimately, the game concluded with a 72-72 draw after a missed three-pointer by Bridges Jr. in the final second.
In the overtime, the Bulldogs maintained a narrow lead over the Lions, ending with an 86-83 victory.
Jaiden McGhee opened the scoring for BSU with a dunk, assisted by
Guy Fauntleroy, at 4:45, setting the tone for a competitive period. West was pivotal in the closing moments, converting four crucial free throws in the final seconds to secure the win. Despite a last-second 3-pointer from Ronald Bridges Jr. for LUPA, the Bulldogs held on to finish the period three points ahead.
