BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State University women's basketball team has accepted an invitation to compete in the Black College Invitational Championship (BCIC) from Friday, Mar. 27 through Sunday, Mar. 29, hosted by Virginia State University at the VSU Multipurpose Center in Petersburg, Va.
Now entering its second year, the Black College Invitational Championship (BCIC) continues to grow as a national platform celebrating the excellence and legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The event was founded by Wes Bellamy with the vision of creating a postseason stage dedicated to showcasing HBCU basketball while honoring the culture, pride and tradition that define these institutions.
The tournament features elite men's and women's basketball programs from both NCAA Division I and Division II representing the four major HBCU conferences. Participating teams will compete for the title of Black College Basketball Champion in a postseason event designed to highlight the talent and competitive spirit across HBCU athletics.
The Bulldogs will open the tournament by taking on the Marauders of Central State University, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), on Friday, Mar. 27 at 2 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on HBCU GO.
More than just a tournament, BCIC also serves as a cultural celebration that promotes the heritage, unity and excellence of Black colleges. The event emphasizes community engagement while celebrating the impact HBCUs continue to have on sports, education and society.
As part of its mission to support the long-term success of HBCUs, BCIC also gives back financially to participating institutions. Tournament organizers donate a portion of proceeds from the event to help fund scholarships, academic programs, athletic departments and campus initiatives that benefit students and strengthen these historic institutions.
