RALEIGH, N.C. — The Bowie State softball team (6-12, 2-0 CIAA) opened play at the CIAA Round-Up with a pair of victories on Thursday, defeating Claflin, 3-2, in game one before securing a 3-0 shutout over Livingstone in the nightcap at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

Game One: Bowie State 3, Claflin 2
Bowie State struck first in the second inning as Taylor Dawkins led off with a double down the left-field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Audrey Newell followed with an RBI single to shortstop to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage.

Claflin evened the score in the third inning, capitalizing on a BSU error and a passed ball to make it 1-1. The Lady Panthers took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning following a string of hits, highlighted by an RBI single.

The Bulldogs responded in the sixth inning to regain control. Presleigh Braxton opened the frame with a single, and Mikayla Amos delivered a double to center field to score Braxton and tie the game. Newell came through again with an RBI single to right field, plating Amos for the go-ahead run.

Sydney Seals closed out the contest in the circle, tossing a complete game and limiting CLA to five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five.

Game Two: Bowie State 3, Livingstone 0
BSU carried its momentum into the nightcap, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning. Mikayla Amos reached base and advanced into scoring position before Angelina Nguyen-Nhu drove her in with an RBI double.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the third inning. Coreena Dunham singled and stole second before Amos recorded an RBI single. Newell later reached base, and Amos scored on an error to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Bowie State defense remained solid throughout, while Aaliyah Amos dominated in the circle. The freshman pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters to earn her second win of the season.
