RALEIGH, N.C. — The Bowie State softball team (10-12, 6-0 CIAA) capped off a dominant weekend at the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday, earning a 12-5 victory over Johnson C. Smith in game one before closing out the event with a 2-0 win over Shaw at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
Game One: Bowie State 12, Johnson C. Smith 5
Bowie State's offense erupted early and never looked back, totaling 16 hits and six stolen bases in the win.
The Bulldogs struck for six runs in the opening inning.
Coreena Dunham scored the first run following a walk and stolen base before
Presleigh Braxton delivered a sacrifice fly.
Mikayla Amos followed with a single, and
Taylor Dawkins blasted a two-run home run. After singles from
Audrey Newell and
Lisa Frias, freshman
Nala Bain capped the inning with her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot to give BSU a 6-0 lead.
Johnson C. Smith responded with two runs in the second inning, but Bowie State answered with four runs in the bottom half.
Samiyah Abdul-Khabir, Amos and Dawkins each contributed in the rally, while Newell delivered a two-run double to extend the lead to 10-2.
The Golden Bulls added runs in the third and fourth innings to cut into the deficit, but the Bulldogs maintained control. BSU added two more runs in the fifth inning, including another run scored by Braxton (marking her 100th career hit) and a bases-loaded walk, to secure the 12-5 victory.

Alycia Searwar pitched four innings, allowing five runs (three earned) with three strikeouts.
Aaliyah Amos closed the game with three scoreless innings, striking out five to seal the win.
Game Two: Bowie State 2, Shaw 0
Bowie State completed the weekend sweep behind a dominant pitching performance from
Sydney Seals.
Seals tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 12 batters while allowing just four hits and issuing no walks.
The Bulldogs broke through in the third inning when Dunham launched a solo home run to center field for a 1-0 lead. BSU added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Dawkins reached base, advanced on a passed ball and later scored on an RBI single by Newell.
The Bulldogs' defense remained solid down the stretch to preserve the 2-0 victory.
