BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State softball team (17-17, 12-0 CIAA, 6-0 North) swept a CIAA doubleheader against Lincoln (PA) (11-22, 6-6 CIAA, 2-4 North) on Saturday, earning 8-1 and 9-3 victories at the BSU Softball Complex.
Game One: Bowie State 8, Lincoln (PA) 1
Bowie State used a big middle inning and dominant pitching to take control in the opener.
After three scoreless innings,
Taylor Dawkins sparked the offense with a solo home run in the fourth. The Bulldogs followed with four more runs in the frame, highlighted by
Coreena Dunham's three-run triple to build a 5-0 lead.
The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth as
Sydney Seals drew a bases-loaded walk to score
Mikayla Amos. LUPA plated an unearned run in the sixth, but BSU responded with two insurance runs to secure the 8-1 victory.
Seals earned the complete-game win, allowing five hits and one unearned run while striking out seven.
Game Two: Bowie State 9, Lincoln (PA) 3
Bowie State continued its offensive momentum with an 11-hit performance to complete the sweep.
Lincoln (PA) struck first in the opening inning, but the Bulldogs answered with three runs in the third.
Coreena Dunham delivered an RBI single, and
Taylor Dawkins added a sacrifice fly to give BSU the lead.
The Bulldogs extended their advantage in the fourth inning.
Presleigh Braxton delivered a two-run double, and
Margaret-Malaika Weaver added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 6-1.
Bowie State added two runs in the fifth on
Ja'chelle Mosley's two-run double and tacked on another in the sixth with an RBI single from
Samiyah Abdul-Khabir. The Lady Lions scored late, but the Bulldogs closed out the 9-3 win.
Aaliyah Amos tossed a complete game, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out nine.
