BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's tennis team (2-11, 0-10 CIAA) earned a pair of dominant victories on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Trinity Washington, 7-0 and 7-0, in a non-conference doubleheader at the BSU Tennis Complex.
In the opening match, the Bulldogs set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, along with a default victory at No. 3.
Nakari Blunt and
Payton Swinton rolled to a 6-0 win at the top spot, while
Asia Johnson and
Verneice Herndon followed with a 6-3 victory.
Bowie State continued its strong play in singles, sweeping all six matches. Blunt claimed an 8-3 win at No. 1, while Herndon (8-5), Swinton (8-0), Johnson (8-0) and
Mil'lanni Marte (8-0) all posted convincing victories.
Daisy Pentorn added the sixth point by default.
In the second match, BSU once again controlled doubles play. Blunt and Swinton earned a 6-1 win at No. 1, while Pentorn and Marte secured a 6-0 victory at No. 2. The Bulldogs completed the doubles sweep with a forfeit win at No. 3.
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into singles competition, winning all six flights. Blunt (8-0), Swinton (8-3), Johnson (8-2), Marte (8-0) and Pentorn (8-1) each earned victories, while Herndon secured a point by default at No. 6.
The doubleheader sweep marks the Bulldogs' first wins of the season and a strong showing across both singles and doubles play on their home courts.
