HUNTSVILLE, Al. — Bowie State (0-3) lost to Alabama A&M (3-1) 45-3 on Saturday at Louis Crews Stadium. BSU's scoring came on a 15-play, 63-yard drive in the second quarter that ended with a field goal and moved the score from 24-0 to 24-3. The Bulldogs finished with 158 rushing yards and held the ball for 34:24 but were limited to seven passing yards while AAMU totaled 538 yards.
After AAMU moved in front 24-0, BSU put together its longest supported scoring sequence of the game, driving 15 plays for 63 yards and finishing the possession with a field goal. The drive used 7:51 of clock and brought BSU to 24-3, but AAMU's offense produced explosive full-game yardage behind 538 total yards and 426 passing yards. BSU also had a late defensive sequence, keeping AAMU out of the end zone over the closing stretch.
BSU ran 42 times for 158 yards, with Maximus Jones carrying 18 times for 74 yards. AAMU converted 5 of 7 third downs and finished with 28 first downs, while BSU went 2 of 12 on third down and had 12 first downs. Peter Lipscombe made one of the Bulldogs' two field-goal attempts, with a long of 24 yards.
BSU was held without a first down in the first quarter, totaling 13 rushing yards and no passing yards while going 0-for-3 on third down. AAMU produced 11 first downs behind Cornelious Brown's 15-of-17 passing for 218 yards and a touchdown. Chris Coleman averaged 52.7 yards on three punts for BSU, but AAMU finished the quarter ahead 17-0.
BSU held the ball for 8:43 in the second quarter and put together a 15-play, 63-yard drive, but its only points came on Lipscombe's 24-yard field goal. As AAMU outscored BSU 14-3 in the quarter. Alabama A&M did most of its damage through the air, with Cornelious Brown completing 10 of 16 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for a 2-yard score, and the home team led 31-3 at halftime.
BSU leaned on the run in the third quarter, gaining 53 yards on 12 carries, but completed 1 of 4 passes for six yards and went 1-for-4 on third down. AAMU produced 67 passing yards and a touchdown through the air, then added points on a blocked 43-yard field-goal attempt returned for a touchdown as time expired to finish the quarter ahead 45-3.To accompany Jones in the rushing game, Daniel Coles Jr. added 61 yards on 15 carries. Ashton Mayeux led BSU with eight tackles, and Chase Francis recorded seven tackles. Brown completed 25 of 32 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown. Jordan Chambers-Smith caught seven passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Jarel Williams added seven receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown. D.J. Barber recorded eight tackles with half a sack.
