I-shakeema Swain is entering her first year as an assistant cross country/track & field coach with the Bowie State University men’s and women’s programs.
 
Swain started her coaching career as a volunteer coach during the 2016-2017 season at Howard University. 
 
Prior to her coaching career, Swain was a three-year lettermen of the women’s cross country and track and field team at Morgan State University.
 
As a freshman during the 2011-12 seasons, Swain was a part of the Bears cross country team that placed fourth at the MEAC championships while during the indoor season she qualified in the mile and 800m. Swain was also placed second in the 5000m with the time of 18:45 during the MEAC Championships. 
 
During Swain’s sophomore campaign, she ran the fastest time of 18:37.98 at the Delaware State Invite, placing first, which was the top time in the MEAC on a 5k course. She followed up with a fifth place finish in the MEAC Championships with a time of 19.15.08, where the Bears placed 7th overall. Swain was named MEAC Athlete of Week twice and was named to the All-MEAC Team and MVP for cross country in 2012-13.
 
Swain earned All-MEAC honors while helping the Bears to a second place finish in the MEAC Championship for cross country and an appearance at the NCAA regional championship in 2013-14. She came in fifth at the outdoor MEAC Championships in the 5000m and was named MVP of both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
 
Swain’s senior season featured a fifth place finish in the conference championship and All-MEAC honors while helping the Lady Bears to a second-place finish overall. She qualified for 5000m during the indoor season and 3000m in the MEAC Championships, where she won the 5000m with the time of 18.23. Furthermore, Swain ran the fastest time of 17.22.05 at Florida Relays, placing 16th overall, which was the top time in the MEAC in the 5000m. Additionally, she qualified in the 1500m, 5000m, and steeple chase for the outdoor MEAC Championships, where she placed second in the 5000m and claimed first place in the steeple chase. Swain wrapped up the 2015-16 season with MVP of the outdoor season and Athletic of the Year.

The Neptune, NJ native, earned several awards as a student-athlete and currently holds several school records that include the mile, 3000m, 1500m, 5000m, and steeple chase.
 
Swain earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Morgan State University in 2016.
