BOWIE STATE LADY BULLDOGS FALL SHORT TO EDINBORO

(CLARION, Pa.)  Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs came up just short in their second game of the season, falling 81-79 to Edinboro.  The loss drops Bowie State to 0-2 on the year.  Edinboro's Renee' Brown made a pair of free throws with 8.8 seconds remaining for the winning points.

Playing their second game is less the 24 hours, Bowie State led Edinboro 42-38 at the break and had a chance to win the game at the buzzer.  Junior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) led BSU with 20 points before fouling out of the game.  Sophomore Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) played another outstanding game, scoring 17 points and paced the Lady Bulldogs with a team-high nine rebounds.  Freshman Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) played her best game so far for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 12 points and added seven rebounds.  Sophomore Denisha Kenion (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) scored in double figures, contributing 15 points and five assists.  

Three Fighting Scots scored 20 points or more for Edinboro.  Samantha Reimer paced the winners with 27 points, Kelsey Coklin poured in 23 points and Renee Brown chipped in 21 points.  Conklin also hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The contest was tight throughout, with 12 lead changes and 11 ties. Edinboro jumped out to a quick 20-8 lead, but found itself trailing 42-36 at the half. Neither team led by more than six points in the second half, and the largest lead in the final ten minutes was three points.

Robinson's layup with 42 seconds left gave Bowie State a one-point lead at 78-77. Conklin's jumper made it 79-78 with 26 seconds to play, but the Lady Bulldogs tied the game at 79-79 when Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) made one of two free throws with 10 seconds remaining.

Brown then was fouled just over a second later and made both of her free throws for the winning points. Bowie State had an opportunity to tie the game with 2.2 seconds left when Kenion was fouled, but missed both free throws.

Bowie State will make their first home appearance - Tuesday, November 18th, hosting conference opponent Livingstone College at 5:30 p.m.
