(Bowie, Md.) The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs started very slow but finished with a flurry, caging the Lady Lions of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 85-55. Junior
Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) and sophomore
Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) scored 19 and 18 points respectively to pace Bowie State. The win evens Bowie State's record at 5-5.
Bowie State began the game hitting just one-of-13 from the floor and that was in the first 34 seconds of the game via a layup by sophomore
Brittney Jackson (Laurel, MD, Laurel). BSU did not score a field again until the 13:28 mark when Robinson came off the bench. An Angelle Green (Yeadon, Pa.) jumper tied the Lincoln (Pa.) largest lead of the night at 16-13 with 9:14 left before halftime.
From there, Bowie State went on a 14-0 and opened up a 27-16 advantage and walked into the break leading 31-25. Bowie State made 13-of-40 first half field goals (32 percent) and Lincoln made 11-of-28 first half attempts (39 percent). Both teams combined for one-of-17 behind the arc in the first 20 minutes, with Lincoln's DeJuana Mosley (Chester, Pa.) responsible for that. The Bowie State defense forced Lincoln (Pa.) into 17 first period turnovers which resulted into 18 Lady Bulldogs' points.
Mosley began the second half with a triple and added another two-point bucket before BSU sophomore
Denisha Kenion (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) stopped the short burst with jumper. Lincoln kept things close until the bottom seemed to fall out with just over 11 minutes left in the contest. The Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions trailed by just two (47-45) before the Bowie State defense kicked it up a notch or two. Bowie State caused four of Lincoln's game-high 37 turnovers over one stretch, allowing the home teams lead to swell to 61-60 by the 7:35 mark. Of Bowie State's overall point production, over half of the Lady Bulldogs points (46) were a result of those turnovers.
Bowie State kept the defensive pressure on and simply ran the Lincoln (Pa.) personnel (nine total players) into submission. The Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions improved their second half shooting, knocking down 12-of-24 from the field. Unfortunately, Bowie State improved its field goal as well, hitting 22-of-38 from the field (58 percent).
Bowie State controlled the paint, scoring 46 points from the inside but were outrebounded 43-41. Bowie State also accounted for a season-high 20 steals, seven of which were by Lee.
Lincoln (Pa.) was led by Mosley with a team-high 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md.) added 16 points and nine rebounds in the setback. The loss, Lincoln's 12th in a row, drops the Lady Lions to 1-12 on the year.
