(BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State had no trouble with visiting Virginia State, rolling past the regionally ranked (7th) Lady Trojans 64-53. The win moves the CIAA Eastern Division leading BSU Lady Bulldogs record to 14-9 overall, 13-3 in the CIAA and 5-1 in the division.
Virginia State (19-5, 10-5 CIAA, 3-3 East) shot a horrifying 19 percent (six-of-32) in the first period compared to 46 percent (12-of-26) for Bowie State. The VSU Lady Trojans stayed close most of the first half until Bowie State opened a 26-16 lead at the 3:56 mark of the opening period. The Bowie State defense forced Virginia State into 11 first half turnovers and converted those turnovers into 12 points and a 31-18 halftime advantage.
Bowie State's lead swelled to a game-high 16 points with 9:03 left in the second half, extending the Lady Bulldogs lead to 49-33. Virginia State would get no closer than nine points twice over the final nine minutes of play, but did manage to improve its field goal shooting percentage to 48 percent in the second half.

Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) tallied a game-high 21 points and senior
Denisha Kenion (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill, University of Virginia) chipped in 12 points on five-of-eight shooting to lead Bowie State. Kenion also dished out a game-high six assists in the win. Bowie State sophomore
Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) grabbed a game and career-high 11 rebounds to go along with nine points.
Katania Walker scored a team-high 14 points to pace Virginia State and Morgan McGill added 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Virginia State outrebounded Bowie State 42-33.
Bowie State travels north for its next outing, with a Thursday (2/12) contest against Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Lions will get started at 5:30 p.m. in Lincoln's Manuel Rivero Hall.
