(BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State University pounded out 16 hits in both games as the Lady Bulldogs roughed up the Saint Augustine's College Lady Falcons 15-1 and 18-3 in CIAA softball action. The wins improve Bowie State's record to 8-4 overall (7-1 CIAA) but drop the Saint Augustine's record to 2-10 overall (2-2 CIAA).
BSU's Lady Bulldogs were led by senior
Tiffany Toney (Abilene, TX, Abilene Cooper, The University of Oklahoma ) and freshman
Shanae Smoot (Bel Alton, Md., LaPlata) with three hits apiece in the opener. Seniors
Tricia Corbin (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill),
Heather Enders (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill),
Ashley Cook (Port Republic, Md., Calvert, College of Southern Maryland) and
Virginia Hockey (Bowie, MD, Mount Saint Mary's University) added two hits each for Bowie State.
Enders, the game one winning pitcher (5-2), struck out seven in
five innings and contributed a game-high four RBI. Corbin, Smoot and Toney crossed the plate three times each.
Saint Augustine's managed just three hits in game one and committed five errors. Lady Falcons pitcher Alyce Wesley faced 31 BSU batters in four innings of play. Diamond Andrews, Wandalee Harris and Roshanda Henderson were responsible for St. Augustine's only three hits in game one.
BSU's Enders went 4-for-4 in game two and recorded three RBI.
Cook went 3-for-3 and Corbin was 3-for-4 in the nightcap and each contributed three RBI. Junior
Faline Brown (Inwood, W.Va., Hagerstown C.C.) notched her third pitching victory of the season, striking out seven and walked only one.
Antoinette Bailey and Andrews paced the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons with three and two hits respectively in game two. Angela Wood suffered the game two loss, allowing six base-on-balls and struck out none.
Bowie State returns to action Thursday, April 4th hosting Saint Paul's College in a 2 p.m. CIAA Eastern Division doubleheader. Saint Augustine's travels to Lincoln University of Pennsylvania for a 2 p.m. twin bill against the Lady Lions.
