(MURFREESBORO, N.C.) Chowan University snapped Bowie State University's 10-game winning streak, sweeping the Lady Bulldogs 8-4 and 4-1.
The Hawks of Chowan, a full member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) beginning the 2009-2010 season, scored seven runs through their first two at-bats to jump out to an early 7-1 lead. Chowan scored four runs to open the game utilizing three walks and three singles to get on top of the Lady Bulldogs 4-1. Tricia Gorman drove in two of the Hawks' three runs in the second inning with a single to left center. Gorman ended the game 1-2 at the plate with three RBI. Jenna Lassiter drove in two runs in the game and finished up 2-3 at the plate. Allie Kolezynski was 3-4 on the day with a stolen base in the win. Senior Shellie Wimpey picked up her 13th win on the mound after throwing a complete game, giving up six hits and four runs, one of which was earned.

Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) led Bowie State in game one with two of the Lady Bulldogs six total hits. Freshman

Annette Makle (Brandywine, MD, Gwynn Park) and seniors
Ashley Cook (Port Republic, Md., Calvert, College of Southern Maryland) and
Heather Enders (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill) added a hit a piece for Bowie State. Enders, lost just her third pitching outing out of 12 appearances.
Chowan exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two, giving them enough runs to take their 25th win of the season. Chowan tallied 10 hits as a team with Gorman, Lassiter, Kolezynski, and Brooke Owen all finishing with two hits. Kolezynski pitched the win, her 12th of the year. She gave up five hits and struck out one Bulldog batter as the Hawks rolled to a 4-1 win.
Bowie State (16-6) managed only five hits in game two, their second lowest hitting output of the season. Junior
Kelley Alexander (Damascus, Md., Covenant Life, Montgomery College) paced BSU with three hits and was directly responsible for the Lady Bulldogs' only run of the nightcap.
The Lady Bulldogs continue their southern road swing, traveling to Elizabeth City State University - Saturday (4/11) to face the Lady Vikings at 1 p.m.
