BOWIE STATE SOFTBALL WINS TWO AT ELIZABETH CITY STATE 11-2 AND 14-0

(ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.)  Bowie State University softball got back to its winning ways, capturing a CIAA Eastern Division doubleheader sweep over Elizabeth City State by scores of 11-2 and 14-0.

Both games of the BSU-ECSU doubleheader ended early due to the 8-run mercy rule.  Bowie State rocked Elizabeth City State for 12 hits in game one and junior Faline Brown (Inwood, W.Va., Hagerstown C.C.) held ECSU's Lady Vikings to five hits and picked up her seventh victory of the season.  Senior Ashley Cook (Port Republic, Md., Calvert, College of Southern Maryland) and junior Kelley Alexander (Damascus, Md., Covenant Life, Montgomery College) led the BSU offensive charge with three hits apiece.  Cook also led Bowie State with a game-high three RBI in the opener.

Maria Bowser and Jaleese Banks totaled two hits each for Elizabeth City State in game one.

Bowie State continued to batter ECSU pitching in game two, pounding out 14 hits.  Alexander led the Lady Bulldogs with three hits and tied for a game-high five RBI with Cook.  Seniors Tiffany Toney (Abilene, TX, Abilene Cooper, The University of Oklahoma ), Tricia Corbin (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill)Heather Enders (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill) and Virginia Hockey (Bowie, MD, Mount Saint Mary's University) recorded two hits each in the 14-0 shutout.  Toney captured her second pitching victory of the year, striking out five Lady Vikings.

Banks and Oasis Ellison tallied ECSU's only two hits of game two.

The wins improve Bowie State to 8-0 in the East, 14-1 in the CIAA and 17-6 overall. BSU's Lady Bulldogs return to action Sunday (4/12) on the road at Virginia Union University.
