GOLDEN GIRLS RECEIVE TOP AWARD AT SUMMER CAMP

(SCRANTON, Pa.)  The Bowie State University Cheerleading team headed up the mountains to the University of Scranton (PA) for a University Cheerleading Association Spirit Camp (UCA), August 6th through August 9th.
 
The UCA program is designed to train cheerleaders to be prepared to step onto the field or court with a huge focus on crowd involvement. The cheerleaders were taught a variety of sideline chants, cheers, dances and many stunts.  This camp also trained dancers and mascots.
 
During this four day camp, the Bowie State "Golden Girls" were evaluated on the material they were taught, which consisted of motions, technique, formations and spacing, voice control and ability of their stunts.   Freshman Tayloy Melton said, “I really enjoyed learning the cheers and the dances".  Senior Tonya Walton stated, “I really enjoyed when we had the basket toss contest, and we won for the highest basket toss". 

The Cheerleaders were awarded the Leadership Ward Trophy, Newcomer Award Trophy, placed 2nd in Sideline Camp Championships, and received seven superior ribbons, which are the highest level of ribbons. The BSU Bulldogs mascot received the mascot “Up and Coming” Mascot Award.
 
The colleges and universities that attended were: Bowie State, Quebec-Les Corbras, Rutgers All-Girl, Toronto, Rutgers Co-Ed, Keystone, Navy, Willimington, Albright, Seton Hall, Frostburg, West Chester, Hostra, Teal University, Georgetown, Delaware Valley, Queens, University of Delaware, Syracuse, Duquesne, Villanova, Liberty, Penn State, Cornell, University of Penn, Scranton, Towson and St. John's.
