(HAMPTON, Va.) The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) released its weekly Player and Coach Honor Roll and Bowie State University took three of the nine awards.
Senior strong safety
Sterling Grant-Jones (Baltimore, MD, Edmondson) was selected as Defensive Back of the Week, freshman
Joseph Goins (Glenn Dale, MD, DeMatha) was named Rookie of the Week and
Damon Wilson was picked as CIAA Coach of the Week.
Grant-Jones has been playing like a man on a mission, leading the Bulldogs defense with a game-high 12 tackles (seven solo and five assisted) and added one fumble recovery against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. Goins is primarily a special teams' player and made a special play in BSU's 20-12 victory over the ECSU Vikings. He blocked an Elizabeth City State punt and recovered it in the end zone for Bowie State's first score of the game.
Second-year head coach
Damon Wilson picked up a key divisional win over Elizabeth City State, keeping the 5-1 Bulldogs in the chase for the division title with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
