BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY TO HOST 2010 MARYLAND CRAB BOWL

2010 Maryland Crab Bowl Once Again Has Star Power

(BOWIE, Md.)   Bowie State University to host 2010 Crab Bowl this Saturday (December 18th) at 12 noon in Bulldogs Stadium on the BSU campus.  "The opportunity for Bowie State University to host a prestigious event like this is fantastic, and I hope we can continue our relationship by making this an annual event on our campus" said BSU Athletic Director Anton Goff.

When the first Crab Bowl came to fruition in 2008 it was clear that the best players in Maryland wanted to be a part of it. Many high profile national prospects helped establish the Crab Bowl as a big player in the all-star game arena. Nick Forbes (Cal), Leon Kinnard (Connecticut), Jelani Jenkins (Florida), Alec Lemon (Syracuse), Sean Stanley (Penn State), Terence Garvin (West Virginia) and David Mackall (Maryland) were just a few of the top prospects in the 2008 game. In 2009, Marcus Coker (Iowa), Michael Coley (Cal), Billy Cosh (Kansas State), Josh Furman (Michigan), Troy Gloster (West Virginia), Arie Kouandjio (Alabama), Robbie Havenstein (Wisconsin) and Zach Zwinak (Penn State) all chose to play in the Crab Bowl. 

"This is a great opportunity for the best student-athletes in the State of Maryland and Washington, DC to play a high school All-Star game on our campus and on our new football field", said Bowie State head football coach Damon Wilson.  "Not only with this give us an opportunity to showcase our new field surface, it will give those visiting our campus the opportunity to see what we have to offer from an academic institution."

This year's edition of the Crab Bowl will have many top prospects on display once again. Below is a snap shot of some of this year's top prospects:


DE Marco Jones (Boy's Latin) – Committed to Virginia. 3-Star prospect by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN. Rated as a Top 40 player nationally at his position by Scout.com

OL Hunter Goodwin (Gilman) – Committed to Wake Forest, 3-Star prospect by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN.

OL Ben Curtis (Calvert Hall) – Offers from Duke, Marshall, Navy and New Mexico.

ATH Adrian Amos (Calvert Hall) – Committed to Connecticut, 3-Star prospect by ESPN.

WR DeAndre Scott (Thomas Johnson) – Offers from Central Michigan and Navy.

DB Blake Countess (Good Counsel) – Offers from Georgia Tech, Michigan, Maryland, Tennessee, Stanford, Arkansas and many others. 4-Star prospect by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN and rated as one of the Top 15 players at his position in the country.

QB/DB Zach Dancel (Good Counsel) – Offer from New Mexico as QB, receiving heavy interest as DB after playing last five games of season at safety.

DB Brandon Phelps (Damascus) – Committed to Virginia. 4-Star prospect by Rivals and ESPN. 3-Star prospect by Scout.com. Rated as one or the Top 10 players nationally at cornerback by ESPN and Top 20 nationally as an athlete by Rivals.

LB Darien Harris (DeMatha) – Committed to Michigan State. 3-Star prospect by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN. Rated as a Top 35 player at safety and linebacker by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN.

PK Michael Branthover (DeMatha) – Committed to Virginia Tech. Rated as Top 15 player nationally by Rivals and Top 35 nationally by ESPN at his position.

DT Vince Croce (Good Counsel) – Committed to Virginia. 3-Star prospect by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN. Rated as Top 40 player nationally at his position by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN.

LB Conner Crowell (North Point) – Committed to Ohio State. 3-Star prospect by Scout.com, Rivals and ESPN. Rated as Top 25 player nationally at his position by Scout.com and Rivals.

It is easy to see why the Maryland Crab Bowl is regarded as one of the best state all-star games on the east coast. This year's game will only enhance that reputation.

The 2010 game will be played at Bowie State University on Saturday December 18, 2010 at Noon.
