(RICHMOND, Va.) The Bowie State University defense held Virginia Union to 19 percent second half shooting and rolled to a 71-46 divisional win. The victory improves Bowie State to 13-6 overall, 13-4 in the CIAA and 3-2 in the East.
Virginia Union (7-15, 3-15 CIAA, 1-5 East) held a brief 4-3 lead early in the contest, but a layup by sophomore
Juliette Turner at the 17:59 mark put Bowie State in front for the remainder of the first half. Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs eventually opened a lead by as much as 14 points (32-14) and headed into halftime with 32-26 advantage.
Tonaye Smith led the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union with 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Kara Scott was the only other Virginia Union player to reach double figure scoring, adding 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points and seniors
Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) and
Flodysha Peterson (Cambridge, MD, Cambridge South Dorchester, Garrett C.C.) added 11 and 10 points respectively. Sophomore
Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) just missed a double-double, recording nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Bowie State bench outscored Virginia Union 26 to 8 and edged the Lady Panthers on the glass 50 to 49.
Virginia Union made 6-of-32 second half field goals and 17-of-64 on the evening.
Bowie State wrapped up the game with a 40 percent field goal shooting percentage, making 22-of-55. BSU converted 23-of-32 free throws (78 percent), with the Lady Bulldogs making 18-of-23 in the final 20 minutes.
Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs will have a brutal final week of the regular season. Bowie State will host Virginia State – Monday (February 15) at 5:30 p.m., followed by home games versus Lincoln (Pa.) – Tuesday (February 16), Saint Paul's – Wednesday (February 17) and Virginia Union – Saturday (February 20).
