(RALEIGH, N.C.) Chowan University and Bowie State University began their first game in the CIAA Round-Up on Friday, but had to finish it the next day due to inclement weather. Once the action concluded Chowan's Hawks defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-2.

Amanda Hedgepeth (Odenton, MD, Arundel) and seniors
Kelley Alexander (Damascus, Md., Covenant Life, Montgomery College) and
Faline Brown (Inwood, W.Va., Hagerstown C.C.) leading the team with two hits each. One of Brown's hits was a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Bowie State's only other run came in the first inning when junior
Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) scored via a wild pitch.
Brown pitched all seven innings, striking out five, walked one and allowed three earned runs.
Mindy Byrd and Brooke Owen paced the Hawks with four and three hits respectively. Chowan (9-15, 3-0 CIAA) pounded out 10 hits in the win. Christie Wright picked up the win for Chowan.
Bowie State (3-5, 0-1 CIAA) will face Fayetteville State in its next Round-Up contest.
