GAME ONE BOX SCORE GAME TWO BOX SCORE
(MILLERSVILLE, Pa.) The Millersville University Marauders took two from Bowie State University in non-conference softball action, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 2-1 and 5-1.
Game one was truly a game of defense, even though Bowie State held a 7-3 hitting advantage. Senior
Kelley Alexander (Damascus, Md., Covenant Life, Montgomery College) pounded out a game-high four hits in four at bats in the opening game of the twin bill.
Millersville scored their two runs in the bottom of the second inning with Kelly Fitzgerald and Casey Coker crossing the plate for the Marauders. Fitzgerald hit a leadoff double then advanced to third on a wild pitch from senior
Faline Brown. Coker reached via a base on balls and later scored on a fielder's choice.
Bowie State's first two batters in the top of the third grounded out before freshman
Amanda Hedgepeth (Odenton, MD, Arundel) reached base via a base on balls. Following Hedgepeth's walk, Alexander doubled, scoring Hedegpeth from first.
Five of the seven Bowie State hits came between innings four and seven, with the Lady Bulldogs getting two each in the sixth and seventh. Unfortunately, BSU left five of their total eight Lady Bulldogs on base in the final two innings.
The Bowie State bats quieted down even more in game two, as the Lady Bulldogs managed just three hits. The lack of offense was apparent with Bowie State dropping a 5-1 decision to the Marauders.
Bowie State scored its only run in the first inning after junior
Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) singled, scoring Alexander. Alexander reached by way of a fielder's choice.
Bowie State went hitless over the next four innings, but Millersville recorded eight hits over next five Marauder innings. Millersville put three on the board in the fourth inning and added a run in each of the final two innings of play.
Lindsay Hosier paced Millersville with two hits in the nightcap and Anna Libby led the Marauders with a pair of RBI.
Hedgepeth, Alexander and McClay were responsible for BSU's three hits in game two.
Bowie State will play its next five games at home, starting tomorrow (March 17) with a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader versus Fairmont State University.
