(BOWIE, Md.) Coppin State's Paige Arnold allowed two unearned runs in the second inning, but struck out 12 including five of the final six batters, leading the Lady Eagles to a 3-2 win over the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs.

Despite having not allowed any hits, Arnold and the Eagles had to rally late to earn the victory.

Junior
Shanae Smoot
(Bel Alton, Md., LaPlata)
reached on a throwing error by Coppin State's Nicole Boggs, scoring Tabor all the way from first.  Freshman Megan Alexander (Damascus, Md., Damascus) grounded out to second, but Smoot was able to score on the throw over to first, giving Bowie State a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles (11-6) cut the lead in half by scoring a run in the top of the fourth inning. Amber Miller struck out looking, but reached base on a passed ball. Boggs advanced Miller to second with a sacrifice bunt and she came into score when Tiffani Whaley reached on a Bowie State fielding error.

Coppin State took the lead for good by scoring two times in the top of the fifth inning.

With one out, Jade Dudley reached first on a throwing error. Betty Luedtke, who pinch ran for Dudley, stole second base. After a pop up, Miller ripped a double to left that scored Luedtke and tied the score at 2-2. Boggs then lifted a single to center that scored Miller and gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Arnold then dominated the remainder of the contest as she did not allow any ball to leave the infield over the final three innings.

Dudley and Bernard each had two hits to lead the offense, while Charma Robinson, Miller, Boggs and Whaley each had one hit each.

Bowie State returns to action - Tuesday (March 23) hosting conference foe Saint Paul's College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
