(WEST CHESTER, Pa.)  West Chester University pitching held visiting Bowie State University to just three hits in two games, edging the Lady Bulldogs 5-3 in game one, but shutout BSU 14-0 in game two.  The losses drop Bowie State's record to 11-14 overall.

The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs were hitless until the top of the fifth inning.  Sophomore Shanae Smoot (Bel Alton, Md., LaPlata) led off the fifth with a walk and later scored on a wildpitch by Missy Schwartz (Norwood, Pa.).  Freshman Amanda Hedgepeth (Odenton, MD, Arundel) stoked a leadoff double to left in the top of the sixth inning and junior Shalai Tabor (Waldorf, MD, Delaware State Univ.) followed with a home run to center, cutting the West Chester lead to 5-3.

Schwartz (4-0) picked up the win, pitching five of seven innings, striking out five and not allowing a run.

It was all West Chester from the very beginning of game two.  The West Chester defense retired Bowie State in order in the top of the first.  The Golden Rams erupted for nine runs on six hits in their portion of the first inning and  were in complete control from that point on.

Senior Elizabeth Slater (Glen Burnie, MD, Lenoir-Rhyne Univ.) recorded Bowie State's only hit of game two, slapping a single to left to leadoff inning two.

West Chester (18-6) roughed up BSU senior Faline Brown (Inwood, W.Va., Hagerstown C.C.) for 14 hits in the nightcap.  Harbaugh and Sam Ingersoll (Ashburn, Va.) paced West Chester's Golden Rams with three hits each.
