(HAMPTON, Va.) It took a while but the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs hard work and dedication paid off in a 3-0 sweep of Shaw University to start the final day of the CIAA Round-Up. BSU defeated the Lady Bears by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-19.
The dynamic freshmen duo of
Cara Nance and
Jenahye' Johnson paced Bowie State with eight and nine kills respectively. Nance also recorded a match-high seven service aces to go along with five digs and eight kills. Johnson was responsible for nine kills and added three service aces and three digs.
Freshman
Paige McIntosh led Bowie State with 25 assists and fellow freshman
Courtney Brown led the Lady Bulldogs in the dig category with six.
The Shaw Lady Bears (1-12, 0-5 CIAA) were led by Crystal Gordan with a dozen kills on 38 attacks and Shaye Walton added seven kills on 18 attacks.
Bowie State (1-10, 1-4 CIAA) will wrap up CIAA Round-Up play with a match against the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State Sunday (9/18) afternoon at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
