Box Score (BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State University used a scoring spurt in the final two minutes to earn a 70-62 win over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. The Bulldogs sweep the season series versus ECSU and up their record to 18-4 overall (10-3 CIAA, 6-1 North). Elizabeth City State drops to 11-12 overall (5-8 CIAA, 3-4 North).

The Bulldogs charged out to a quick 8-0 run to start the game and took their largest lead of the game, 21-9, with 11:52 left before the break. The Vikings battled back to take a 29-28 lead on a jumper by Paul Goldsmith at 4:41 mark before BSU junior
Bryan Wilson reclaimed the lead for the Bulldogs with a 3-pointer on their next possession.
Bowie State took a 37-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half the two teams exchanged the lead six times and were tied on three different occasions.
With the score 60-59 in favor of Bowie State, senior
Travis Hyman led a 6-0 run to push their lead to seven with 1:10 remaining. The Bulldogs essentially put the game out of reach with four free throws in the final minute of play.
“We got off to a great start, but didn't manage our offense well late in the game”, said third-year Bulldogs head coach
Darrell Brooks. “We're too experienced of a team to make mistakes the way we did in terms of turnovers at key times.”
Angelo Sharpless, who paced ECSU with a team high 18 points, scored the Vikings' only field goal in the final 3:33, a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left with the game's outcome already decided.
Bowie State continued its dominance on the glass, outrebounding Elizabeth City State 45-34 and held a 40-29 advantage in the paint. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 19 times, giving the Vikings a 17-14 points off turnovers advantage.
The Bulldogs shot 47.3 percent from the field (26-of-55) which included 4-of-17 beyond the 3-point line (23.5 percent). Elizabeth City State's Vikings made 21-of-66 from the field (31.8 percent) and 6-of-25 beyond the arc (24 percent).
Elizabeth City State and Bowie State matched each other at the free throw line as each team made 14-of-18 (78 percent).
Hyman finished the contest with a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Bulldogs who are ranked at #21 the country in latest NABC poll. Westmorland was second on the team in scoring with 14 points and seniors
Darren Clark and
Jay Gavin added 11 and 10 respectively.
Bowie State hosts round three versus Lincoln University of Pennsylvania – Saturday (February 11th) in a 4 pm nationally televised broadcast.
