(BOWIE, Md.)  Junior Amanda Ray went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and knocked in six RBI to lead the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs to a doubleheader, non-conference sweep of the Shaw University Lady Bears. The wins improve the Bowie State record to 9-7 while Shaw dips to 5-26.

Bowie State picked up a 10-2 win in game one, matching their run total with the total number of hits for the Lady Bulldogs.  Sophomore Shelby Snyder recorded her second pitching victory of the season, striking out four while allowing three hits in four innings of work.

Sophomore Adria Lewis and freshman Cassandra Clayborne led the Lady Bulldogs with three hits and four at bats each.  Clayborne crossed the plate with four of Bowie State's runs and Lewis was responsible for a game-high two RBI.

Shaw was only able to get four hits off Bowie State pitching in the opening game and Sheniqua Fahie was responsible for two of them.

Like game one, Bowie State jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage in game two, but this time Shaw made the game a little more interesting.  With Shaw in a 5-0 hole, the Lady Bears put together a four run, second inning and added one more run in the top of the 3rd inning to tie the game at 5-5.

However, the Shaw dugout celebration was short-lived.  Bowie State exploded for five more runs on six hits in the bottom of the third to take a 10-5 lead.

Bowie State added two more runs in the 4th inning and a 5th inning single to right field by freshman Raenelle Taylor, scoring Clayborne secured a 13-5 victory for the Lady Bulldogs.

Ray paced the Lady Bulldogs in game two going 3-for-3 and recorded a personal BSU career-high five RBI.  Sophomore Haley Snyder also had a good game, going 3-for-4 at the plate and added three RBI.  The Bowie State trio of junior Justine Smith, Clayborne and Taylor each went 2-for-4 in the nightcap.

Freshman Hayley Flint started the game in the circle for Bowie State, pitching two innings and allowed eight hits.  Sophomore Mariela Hernandez pitched the final three innings, giving up three hits, struck out three and earned the victory to improve to 5-3 on the year.

Bowie State tallied 16 hits in game two and Shaw wasn't far behind with 11 hits.

Cortnee Kelly, Shai Bease, Morgan Jones and Nikita Burroughs had two hits each to lead the Shaw Lady Bears in game two.
