(BOWIE, Md.)  Sophomores Shelby Snyder (Pennsauken, N.J.) and Adria Lewis (Cumberland, Md.) tallied a pair of hits each and junior Justine Smith (Silver Spring, Md.) added a solo homer, but Bowie State falls twice to Bloomsburg University.  Playing their first games of the season, the Lady Bulldogs lost by scores of 10-1 and 12-5 to the Huskies.

In game one, Bloomsburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and increased that lead to 4-0 by the third.  Bloomsburg pitching and defense held the Lady Bulldogs hitless up to that point.

Bowie State's lone hit and run came in the bottom of 4th inning when junior Justine Smith homered to straight away center.  The Huskies added six more runs in the top of the 5th inning to close out the game via the NCAA 8-run rule.

Lady Bulldogs' freshman Haley Flint (Mesa, AZ) took the loss, allowing 13 hits.  Cait Payne picked up the Huskies victory, striking out six of 16 batters faced.

The second game of the twin-bill was a lot closer than the final 12-5 score indicates.  Like game one, Bloomsburg began with a two run lead after a half inning of action.

Bowie State pushed one across in the bottom of the second when the Bloomsburg pitcher walked freshman Cassandra Clayborne, scoring Shelby Snyder from third.  Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs couldn't take advantage of several bases loaded opportunities in that inning to score more runs.

The Huskies held a 4-1 advantage after three innings and added one more in the top of the 4th inning after an Erika Yanora triple to right center scored Raychelle Kuhns.

Bowie State's bats came alive in their half of the 4th inning, pounding out four of their total seven hits.  The Lady Bulldogs sent 10 batters to the dish scoring four runs and tied the game at 5-5.  Two of the Lady Bulldogs runs were unearned due to three Lady Huskie errors in the inning.

Bloomsburg (4-0) responded in the top of the 5th inning with three runs on four hits, added one run in the 6th and three more runs to the scoreboard in the 7th to close out the game.  The Huskies tallied 17 hits against two different Bowie State pitchers.

Sophomore Meriela Hernandez made her first start in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, giving up five runs on eight hits over four innings.  Snyder came in to relieve Hernandez in the 5th inning, allowing seven runs (three earned) on nine hits and struck out three.

The Lady Bulldogs return the diamond Friday, March 9th for the weekend CIAA Round-Up in Raleigh (NC).
